If you haven't been on Facebook to see all my tarsier posts, then you may not know much about them. This post is all about these cute little animals.
The Philippine Tarsier (or Mawmag in the local language) is one of the smallest primates in the world; it lives on the islands Leyte, Samar, Mindanao, and most famously--Bohol. Their conservation status is NT or Near Threatened. From what I understand, it will soon be either Conservation Dependent or Venerable because of the rate of their habitat lose, and changing migration patterns of insects. Considering that the population of the Philippines has doubled in the last 30 years, it's not surprising that these little animals (about the size of your fist) do not have the habitat they once did. Climate change is cited as the reason for its lack of food. Many of the bugs it eats and easily adapt and move elsewhere, but it's a lot harder for primate to adapt so quickly.
